The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup is a National Hunt which is the final event on Day Three of the world-famous Cheltenham Festival. This steeplechase is a race, especially for amateur riders. It’s The Cup, the Foxhunter Challenge and the National Hunt Chase are the festival’s only amateur races.
Originally named the Kim Muir Amateur Riders’ Steeplechase, the race dates back to 1946. Fulke Walwyn’s name (a famous trainer) was added to the event in 1991. While it’s not the highest-profile event of St. Patrick’s Day at Cheltenham, it nonetheless draws major attention from punters.
Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup: Tips and Predictions
The race card for the 2021 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup hasn’t been published yet. As a result, which horses and jockeys will be taking part in the event isn’t clear.
However, as an ungraded, amateur, handicapped race, the Challenge Cup has traditionally served as proving grounds. Many horses and jockeys that succeed here go on to perform well in higher-profile races and those winners tend to follow a few overall trends.
For example, while the race takes horses aged five or older, no winner since 1946 has been younger than 7. Only one winner in the past decade has been older than 9, and all those victorious in the past decade carried a weight above 11-0.
All victors since 2014 have been horses that saw no winning performances in the previous season. Since 2009, three horses have bucked that trend. Only two of the last 12 winners have been favourites. However, seven out of 12 were in the top three in terms of the odds.
After the race card is published, using these trends, you’ll be able to narrow the field and make your picks.
