The Marsh Novices’ Chase is a National Hunt race held every year as part of the Cheltenham Festival. Also known as the Golden Miller Novices’ Chase, the Grade 1 race marks the start of St. Patrick’s Day. It’s the first race of the day, directly before the Pertemps Network Final.
The race was established in 2011, as a showcase for novice chasers. It was initially sponsored by Jewson, until 2014. That year, the chase was upgraded to Grade 1, and JLT’s sponsorship deal began. It became known as the Marsh Novices’ Chase after JLT and Marsh merged.

Marsh Novices’ Chase: Tips, Predictions and Previews
At the time of writing, the 2021 Marsh Novices’ Chase has a single overwhelming favourite: Envoi Allen. Punters rarely get to see a horse with
1/1 odds for a Grade 1 chase, which highlights its dominance. The six-year-old French gelding trained by Gordon Elliott has an impressive record.
With ten victories in ten races in 2018, Envoi Allen is undefeated over his career. The horse is also in his best form, having racked up four victories in four races in 2020. That includes a first-place finish at Cheltenham last March. Elliott has won two of the past three editions of the race.
That said, only four of the last ten chases were won by the favourite. Eight out of ten were won by a top three favourite, though. Chantry House, the second favourite, trails Envoi Allen in the odds as a
10/1 shot. However, the horse is in excellent form this year, winning twice and showing once.
