Cheltenham Festival Day 3: Stayers’ Hurdle

The Stayers’ Hurdle is a Group One National Hunt competition, open to horses aged four years and older. It takes place on the 4,785 metre New Course at Cheltenham, consists of 12 hurdles and is one of the most prestigious long-distance horse races in Britain.

The Stayers’ Hurdle is an illustrious event in the National Hunt calendar, and it’s scheduled to occur on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival. It’s the second most popular race at The Festival, somewhat surprisingly given the level of action on offer throughout the week.

More than just an exciting spectacle to watch, the race provides a fantastic opportunity for punters willing to research the field in advance to find favourable odds on the expected runners.

Stayers’ Hurdle: Tips and Predictions

Lisnagar Oscar was a shock 50/1 winner last year and, despite being as low as 9/1 now, it would be another surprise if Rebecca Curtis’ charge scores again (0-3 since). Flooring Porter won a Grade 1 in Ireland at Christmas from the front with the likes of Sire Du Berlais (twice a winner at this meeting) and Fury Road (third in Albert Bartlett last season) behind.

Beacon Edge is perhaps the underestimated Irish player after his Boyne Hurdle win but PAISLEY PARK can trump them all to regain the Stayers’ crown. He had a valid excuse when only seventh last year and December’s Long Walk win at Ascot was as good as ever.

With key rival Thyme Hill ruled out last week, the path has been cleared for Emma Lavelle’s charge to show why he’s such a popular performer by surging home late to regain this crown back.
